Read about Ann's contributions to the club and learn some fun facts about the woman whose name is synonymous with the Women's Training Program.
Please list the Reston Runners programs and/or events that you volunteer for.
For a number of years (I forget exactly how many) I helped coordinate Reston Runners' participation in the Relay for Life (an effort kept alive thanks to Fernando Boccanera).
For the past 11 years, I have directed the Women's Training Program. I also volunteer at the Fall Into Winter race when I can and help out at special RR events. By far, my biggest interest is in helping women improve their fitness by running and/or walking. I am thrilled that Caroline Hemenway and Amy Barrett have agreed to organize the Back of the Pack effort and are volunteering every Saturday.
What do you like best about doing volunteer work for the club?
That's easy--the people. I have met the most wonderful, genuine people through RR. It is a real joy to work with people who want to help others reach their fitness goals and have fun at the same time. Women really enjoy the camaraderie of working out with other women'it is a win-win for all of us. Directing the WTP also helps me when I need motivation. I get just as much out of it as I put into it.
Please tell us an unusual fact about yourself or talent that you have that few people know about.
I have a real fascination with how people learn and how the brain takes in and processes information. I love reading and studying about motivation and Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a teacher or psychiatrist--education won.
