Since I didn't run in the JFK and respect those who did, I'd like to relate my one and only JFK story that happened to me while doing my bicycle patrol thing on Saturday. After I greeted many of the Reston Runners exiting Weverton Cliff and, getting just a little pumped when I saw so many of my home town friends giving it their best, Jerry Bonnes and I drove to Antietam to a place that we could easily go north or south to help our runner friends. I had a bike bag full of supplies and, by gosh I was going up the Tow Path to bring any kind of aid that I could to my friends.
Well, Jerry and I passed lots of the orange clad gang but, they were all doing fine and, their crews were on top of their needs. Jerry did stop to give someone an Advil but, I never was asked for anything and, after a while I was wondering if I was really needed at all. I mean I, had Gatorade, water, candy bars, Advil a really complete first aid kit and, a Ace bandage and, in my mind I was a Reston Runners EMT.
All of a sudden as I was pedaling along with Jerry behind me; I spied a young lady leaning on a tree with one hand and clutching her groin with the other. I said to myself " Hot Damn" she isn't a Reston Runner but, she needs my help. I pulled up beside her and asked if there was anything that I could do.
She said "no thanks, I'm just whizzing".
Boy was I embarrassed!
