This was my first ultra and my experience was incredible. I was very nervous, but once I got started, everything fell into place. I think one big key to my success was food. The organization at the aid stations was phenonemal! All the training tips and help that I received from Reston Runners really made a differance. Having that run on the AT back in September gave me an idea of what the first part would be like. I actually found that in the ultra, the AT seemed easier than it did back then. Even starting in the dark and all the leaves covering the rocks, I did much better. It took me about 4 hours and 10 minutes to get to the Weverton station, and back in September it took me almost 5 hours.
Even though I enjoyed the experience, its really not something I want to do again. The training just really took a toll on me. I do see me doing 50Ks in the future. I also recommend to anyone even contemplating doing a 50 miler to definately do it. Its certainly worth it. I have a couple friends thinking about doing JFK next year and have already recommended they do it through Reston Runners.
Anyway, thanks to Reston Runners and the JFK organizers for everything.
