Difficult Run at Crossfield Elementary School
Annual "Difficult Run" (Cross-Country)
Fox Mill Road at Thoroughbred Road
5 Mile Trail Run
Measured: 4.4 Miles
View: Start Location / Street Map / Satellite Map
Directions:
- Start at the Fox Mill District Park parking lot, to the right of the entrances to Crossfield Elementary School, going north from the corner of the parking lot onto the asphalt path that passes by the rear of the school
- Right in the basketball court just after passing behind the school onto another asphalt path for about 50 yards
- Right onto a dirt trail (for the rest of the run) for about 75 yards
- Left around the soccer field along the edge of the grassy area between the woods and the soccer field
- Bear right slightly beyond the cyclone fence toward the dirt trail into the woods (obscured at times by weed growth)
- Continue gently downhill, crossing a trail and a (sometimes) dry creek bed for about 250 yards
- Continue through a jog around a large deadfall and then uphill for about 100 yards to a 4-way trail intersection just before the crest of the hill
- Right at the 4-way trail intersection for about 100 yards to a "T" intersection with another dirt trail
- Left at the "T" intersection, continuing without significant turns for about one mile, making a long 180 right turn starting in about 1/3 mile after 2 crests of hills
- Continue past another hill crest to a rock outcropping and a steep rocky downhill
- Left across the wooden foot bridge across Little Difficult Run
- Left after a very short rise onto a straight, flat trail paralleling Little Difficult Run for about 300 yards
- Right at a "T" intersection up a steep hill for about mile
- Right to continue on the trail about 75 yards beyond the crest of the hill where a barbed-wire fence and a shed are directly ahead
- Left at the next trail intersection just beyond the end of the barbed-wire fence, continuing straight and roughly level for about mile, passing to the right of a backyard fence (path obscured at times by weed growth)
- Right at the "T" trail intersection just before Fox Mill Road
- Right at the bottom of the steep downhill at the next trail intersection, continuing straight and level for almost mile
- Left at the major trail intersection to cross the bridge over Little Difficult Run again, continuing along the roughly level trail following a small creek on your left for about 300 yards
- Left to cross the bridge over the small creek and continue straight for about 100 yards
- Right at a trail intersection to follow the small creek, now on your right, for about 100 yards
- Left at the next major trail intersection, leaving the small creek and going uphill for a short distance toward the soccer field.
- Right after the crest of the small hill to continue on the trail toward the parking area to return to the Start
- Runners repeat the 2.2 mile loop; walkers have the option.
Notes:
This is one of the most difficult runs in our catalog of runs; prepare to get mud on your shoes!
