Support & Drop Bag System
RUNNER INSTRUCTIONS
Our drop bag system allows our runners to have access to items they anticipate needing at 3 points along the course. Drop bags will be provided at the final organizational meeting. Bags will be transported directly from the start to the designated aid station, then to the finish. Since they will not be brought from aid station to aid station, runners must pack a separate bag for each stop. Cheerful Reston Runner volunteers will set up the drop bags and help runners at the aid stations. Runners must wear their team shirt during the run to be able to take advantage of this service – otherwise we won’t know you are a Reston Runner and are looking for your bag and support.
*Pack your drop bags*
Consider lining your drop bag with a trash bag in case of rain.
- Weverton, Mile 17 (8:30AM – 11:30AM) TIME CUT OFF: 10:30 (5AM)/11:30 (7AM)
Anticipate: arriving mid-morning, warmer temperatures, dropping a layer, leaving your flashlight (5am starters), and possibly changing your shoes.
Consider packing: change of shoes, change of clothes, particular food you like, your pharmacy (salt/electrolyte tablets, Vaseline, Tums, Advil, toilet paper) or other replacement items for your pack.
- Antietam, Mile 27 (11AM – 1:30PM) TIME CUT OFF: 1:00 (5AM)/1:45 (7AM)
Anticipate: arriving mid-day, feeling a little tired or hungry and maybe grumpy.
Consider packing: change of clothes, particular food you like, pack-replenishments, pharmacy items.
- Taylor’s Landing, Mile 38: (12:00PM - 4PM) TIME CUT OFF: 4:00 (for all)
Anticipate: arriving in the afternoon, picking up your flashlight/headlamp (if you might finish after 5pm), picking up warm clothes or changing out of wet clothes. It gets really cold in the evening, and you may be moving more slowly in the later miles.
Consider packing: extra warm clothes, flashlight, change of running outfit, particular food you like, pack-replenishments, pharmacy items.
- Finish, Mile 50.2: (2:30PM - 7PM) TIME CUT OFF: 7:00 (for all)
- Anticipate: being very happy, hungry and tired. And wanting a shower real bad. Cliff and his team will be providing massages if you happen to be a little stiff. There will be some chicken, warmish “hot” chocolate, doughnuts, and pizza for runners.
Consider packing: Towel, dry & fuzzy warm clothes, shampoo and shower items, money for massage tip, small blanket/pillow and snacks for the ride home.
*MARK YOUR BAGS*
Mark each bag with your name, the mile number of the aid station you want that bag dropped at, your bib number, and “Reston Runners.” [Example: “Ken White, Mile 17, Reston Runners, Bib # 632].
*GIVE US YOUR BAGS*
Place your marked drop bags in the marked pile at the start in the gym.
*PICK UP YOUR BAGS*
Your bags will be returned to the gym at the finish and will be placed next to the Reston Runners banner.
