First, it's a financial entity with its own revenue sources independent of the Club's general revenue. The Club established it to continue our general outreach efforts and to comply with the directive of our constitution and bylaws that direct us to engage in educational and philanthropic programs. We have established a separate non profit corporation and have applied to the IRS for recognition as a tax-exempt organization, meaning that donations to the fund can be considered as charitable contributions for the donors' income tax purposes. We have created a Board of Directors largely associated with the Club: Bill D'Agostino, Dennis Hays, Holly Armstrong, Mary Shedlock, Pete Bruno, Tim Cohn, Chris Dettmar, and Joe Fleig. The Fund's goal is to raise and disburse revenue in the form of scholarships to graduating seniors from South Lakes and Herndon High Schools who have been student athletes in cross country and track, and also to support other needy local fitness-related causes. It's expected that revenue will come from donations, sponsorship of events, special fund-raising activities, and so forth. More information will follow! In the meantime, any ideas and suggestions are welcome. Talk to one of the officers named above with your ideas.
