Reston
Runners |
The children's running program begins in early June and continues into August. The program provides running and exercise readiness activities in an atmosphere of non-competitive fun. Twenty-five volunteer coaches from Reston Runners guide the activities of nearly 200 children. Children meet once a week for an hour of planned activities. Everyone starts with 10 minutes of warm-up and stretching. Then the young runners are divided into exercise groups by age. In recent years, ages range from 3 to 15. Age group activities and games promote speed, endurance, flexibility, and strength. Children help to create the yearly program t-shirt by submitting drawings that are arranged on the shirt design. All children receive a t-shirt. At the end of each program, everybody congregates for the annual pizza picnic. See Pictures from the 2001 Summer Program. Cost: To register, complete and submit (by mail or by presentation at the next YIM training session) the printable application. For more information, contact the program coordinator, Carol Molesky.
