Program Information

Registration for summer 2008 is now closed.   The program is fully subscribed.  Sorry, we do not offer a wait-list.

In order to meet the needs of the children who can most benefit from the program, we are raising the starting age elegibility to 3 years old.

Program Overview The children's running program, Youth-in-Motion, begins in June and continues into August. The program provides running and exercise readiness activities in an atmosphere of non-competitive fun.  About fifty volunteer coaches from Reston Runners guide the activities of nearly 300 children.

Children meet once a week for an hour of planned activities. Everyone starts with 10 minutes of warm-up and stretching. Then the young runners are divided into exercise groups by age. Ages range from 3 to 14. Age group activities and games promote speed, endurance, flexibility, and strength.  We utilize the middle school track, infield, and some of the school's surrounding athletic fields.  Children are asked to bring their own water.  Appropriate athletic shoes and clothing are required.

A Youth-in-Motion designed t-shirt will be provided to each participant. At the end of the program, we will have a Pizza Party at Lake Fairfax Park.

Volunteers and Coaches Parent volunteers and coaches are always needed. You don't need any experience; we will provide guidelines and training. We just need some willing people to work with us during the hour we are at the track. It's fun and rewarding with the kids! Please contact the Co-directors, Mary and Valerie, if you are interested.

Program eNews (Email Newsletter) Our program has an email news (Kids eNews) to which all participants are automatically subscribed (at no charge). The eNews arrives as an e-mail to the address you supply when you register. It provides an unobtrusive, secure means for the program directors to keep everyone informed. No longer do our registrants need to manually subscribe or unsubscribe!

Cost and Registration Cost: $20/child. The fee covers administrative costs, the cost of a program t-shirt for each participant, and the end-of-season party.

For more information, contact the program directors, YIM Directors  .
