Duane as Reston Runners Remember Him

It is with deep sorrow that we report that on December 22, 2006, Reston Runners lost a beloved running companion, a thoughtful and witty writer, and a true friend.  Duane was a very active member of the Reston Runners for many years, contributing in so many ways.  Most recently, he informed and entertained us through his superb Stats and Chats columns.  We will all miss Duane's cheerful smile, quick wit and warm and friendly personality.  A memorial service has been planned for a Saturday in mid-January (see below).

A Message from Vivian Baltz regarding the Memorial Service for Duane

Vivian Baltz writes:
I have looked at the Reston Runners website and am so touched by the messages about Duane.  I can't thank you enough for all the support you, as Duane's fellow runners, gave us during these difficult months.  He was hopeful til the end and I so wish he had been able to have one more run, one more time with all of us, one more song.  But he is well remembered, and there is immortality in that.

The memorial service will be a non-religious one in the community room of a church that a friend has arranged for us to use.  It will be on Saturday, January 20 at 2:00 p.m. at St Thomas Episcopal Church, 8991 Brook Road, McLean, Va 22102.  The website is www.stthomasmcleanva.org  if anyone needs directions.  If anyone wants to speak and wants to be listed in the program, please let me know at duane_b@restonrunners.org . The Reston Runners were such an important part of Duane's life, and one of his happiest.

Some people have been asking me about memorial contributions.  [For this purpose], we have designated the scholarship fund...originally set up in Leslie's memory: The Leslie Baltz Memorial Art Study Fund, c/o University of Virginia Fund, P. O. Box 3446, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
