Reston Runners have a great way to start the New Year; a midmorning five mile run
Maria and I joined other New Years Eve revelers, fresh from their beds, who came for the first day's fun
There must have been lots of get fit resolutions, as there were walkers and runner galore
Joe Stowers took care of introductions and, Dennis Hays the directions, with a clue to what was in store
In a moment we runners were off toward Herndon, while Liz O Toole led walkers on to Lake Anne
When all of the foot moving was completed, Dennis neared the fountain, for the rest of his plan
He, Keith Whited and John Lee, jumped into the water, then Keith dove or attempted to float
All exited the pool, smiling but, Keith's forehead had encountered the bottom of the moat
Big kids were doing, what big kid will do, without adult supervision, what would be next?
Witnesses spoke of Polar Bears frolicking in the ice water; which is sure not a prelude for sex
Well, the chill seekers got dry cloths, then chatted amongst themselves for a while
I know when I recall this first day of the year; it's bound to bring me a smile
