This morning we met at Riverbend Park to do our Saturday run
Dennis had laid out the route for today, to be followed with a breakfast of pot luck fun
We know Dennis has a reputation for designing some pretty good run courses
But the one that he laid out this morning could be used to train our armed forces
Dennis described the trail in detail and the flour arrows that we would see on the ground
And then off we ran along the Potomac like a bear being chased by a hound
Flat and sandy is the way that it started, but we knew it just couldn't last
A hard left turn came in a few minutes then it was up hill with run speed falling off fast
Through the thick forest with more rocks and roots till a big hill that really went down
At last we again saw the Potomac, not too far from where the end could be found
Then one by one our troops trotted in, and we dripped with sweat from the drill
And one and all raised water cups to toast Dennis, and now I'll send this poem to Will
