Since you all have known me for a while I thought I would brag a little- not that I ever do that. As many of you know, I ran the Flying Pig Marathon on Sunday, May 2nd. Needless to say, I exceeded my own expectations which, in the fun care-free mindless state I have been in for a while, shouldn't be hard to do. However this was an exception.
I also think I need to give Kim special thanks since she endured running with me on mornings when I was doing two runs a day. This definitely helped me build those miles and get me over 50 miles a week on a consistent basis. I should also say she somehow managed to keep my ego in check, which as everyone knows is no easy task.
Well, the day for the Flying Pig was my kind of day to run. Of course, most people would hate it which is why I probably got second in my age group. At the start, it was in the mid 40's with rain and some wind. It was like that for the entire race. At the end, my time was 3:22:43 (7:43 a mile) with a second place out of 114 runners in my age group. I came in 238 out of 4,348 finishing runners and god knows how many relay runners and leukemia walkers.
Not bad for an old guy. Guess I can still run pretty quick when I focus a little. You know, I still think I was under-trained.
