Hi Everyone,
Well I had my worst marathon time in all 48 marathons with a net 4:28 but it was the most rewarding marathon I ever did and I am overjoyed. Sounds weird but true.
Its obvious that it was the most difficult marathon most of us have ever ran due to the weather, but for me, mile 18 last year was the ending point in the medical tent and three weeks later I had back surgery. That said, my first half this year went well but shortly after I knew that the goal went from time to just crossing the finish line! I turned off my watch and just watched the miles pass. The last 9 miles, I walked a little, jogged (not run) a little, had fun with the crowd, made a gesture at mile 18 to get my revenge from last year, had more fun with the crowd and ran the last 1 1/2 miles, overjoyed to cross the finish line! The monkey from last year is off my back.
There are other years to go back to Boston and improve the time and this was already my third marathon of 2004, only 15 states to go. The best part of this years marathon however, was spending time with my friends from Virginia. So though some may be disappointed, I am on cloud 9, overjoyed with my experience. One that I will never forget for so many reasons.
Congrats to all you finishers and I hope you had a good time regardless of your time!!!!!!!
