Hot Hot Hot.. Thats all I could think...And I was so scared of drinking too much, I actually think I didn't drink enough... But this time my Succeed Caps WERE in a baggie!! And thank you Diane for encouraging me take one earlier than later. At the beginning of the day I knew I was there to do everything possible to make it to BC (my alma mater, GO EAGLES!) and enjoy every minute of it. Since I was not running for anything but the pure magic of Boston, I broke cardinal Rule No 1 of everything - don't try something new on race day...i paid for it...
"But those compression socks feel so good!" I highly recommend the knee high compression socks by the way...just make sure you wear enough body glide to avoid blisters.
I think I gave up running for a shuffle...and then a walk-sord-of-hip-swinging movement...I don't think I ran a full mile from the 14m to the 22, just before BC...and then I ran for 2 miles because the feeling fo running past my undergrad college was just overwhelming. They lifted my spirits so much, I will never forget that feeling..then, after BC..... back to a shuffle...til the end, where Fred was waiting for me with a bundle of tulips! Thank God the end came when it did!
Initially my only goal was to finish and then it was to not end up in the hospital...funny how your goals can change so quickly and you become willing to accept (and be grateful for) whatever the day does end up giving you. Monday was one of those - "Wow, Am I ever grateful for the cheers of countless strangers, smiling young faces, neighbors with hoses, and ice cubes..." (oh, and the fact that I had 'yankees suck' written on my stomach, worked rather well to garner rowdy cheers from dedicated, die-hard Sox fans..It's a good thing they won on Monday!)
More than anything, I think the highlight for Fred and me was that we stayed at a Bed and Breakfast that i highly recommend...The Firseside B&B in Lexington, MA. (not too far from Alewife) The couple was absolutely wonderful and it was nice to come home to some quiet respite after being in the busyness of the city.
It was a great feeling to be there and to see so many Reston Runners there... I look forward to seeing all the fun pictures. I hope everyone is recovering well. :) Enjoy your weekend everyone!!
Cheers.xo
