Some may know, some may not,
Last week I won a first place spot
At the Herndon 10K, an annual race,
For fifty, fifty-nine, I set good pace.

After basking in glory, another race had allure.
I went with some friends to the Race For the Cure.
There were so many people, so much rain,
Nothing I could do would ease the pain.

My time was slow, I was knocked off my peak.
From first to worst in one short week.

At first I was sad. It had that effect.
But today, I stopped and paused to reflect?
Yesterday's race had a different kind of glory.
And now I come to the point of my story.

Through the streets of the city, we were sixty thousand strong.
Runners and walkers, even strollers came along.
There were so many people, so much rain.
Our voices arose, we were fighting the pain.

We're in it together, we must find an answer.
And run for a cause - to cure breast cancer.
