  1. Start at crest of hill on entrance road into Lake Fairfax Park in main parking area (at 15 mph sign)
  2. North on Lake Fairfax Drive for about 1/2 mile
  3. Left on Hunt Club Road for about 1/3 mile
  4. Right on Ring Road for about 1/3 mile
  5. Right on path paralleling North Shore Drive on left side for about 1/3 mile, passing under Becontree Lane
  6. Right at "T" path intersection for about 50 feet to sidewalk along North Shore Drive
  7. Left on sidewalk along North Shore Drive for 50 feet
  8. Left onto the overpass over Wiehle Avenue
  9. Left on path along far side of Wiehle Avenue after crossing Wiehle Avenue on the overpass for about 3/4 mile, using path along Lake Anne dam
  10. Right on the W&OD Trail[Water stop is on W&OD Trail across Wiehle Ave] for two miles toward Herndon, reversing direction when you reach the far side of the bridge over the Fairfax County Parkway (about 1/4 mile beyond the Milepost 18.5, between Town Center Pkwy and Herndon Parkway); return to Wiehle Ave. [Cross Wiehle Ave to get to the water stop again]
  11. Turn left on Wiehle and then right on second North Shore (via overpass), following path along south side of North Shore
  12. Right onto trail before day care center for 50 feet
  13. Left at trail intersection, passing under Beacontree Lane, returning to North Shore Drive at the Uplands Pool
  14. Right on Ring Road
  15. Right on Hunt Club Road
  16. Right on Lake Fairfax Drive and into Lake Fairfax parking lot to finish


The W&OD portion of this run (2 miles out and back, for 4 miles total) can just as well be run by heading east to approx. mile 14.8 (0.2 mile beyond mile marker 15 and about 200 meters before Hunter Mill Rd.) and back. Also, the run can be extended to 11 miles by running 2.5 miles out and back along the W&OD portion of the run.
